A British company, Snowbility, was founded in 2011 and has since helped more than 10,000 people gain physical and psychological benefits from skiing and snowboarding.

Its slogan is "It's cool to be different" and welcomes students from all walks of life, backgrounds and various needs and problems, including learning difficulties and autism, and encourages them to practice winter sports. . It was founded by Richard Fetherston and is based at the Snow Center in Hemel Hempstead, an indoor ski slope 20 minutes from London.
"We aim to enrich the lives of our students, parents, carers and teachers we work with, giving people with additional needs and rehabilitative challenges the opportunity to improve both emotionally and physically through skiing and snowboarding - Fetherston told The Telegraph - We have a team of fully qualified ski and snowboard instructors with the knowledge, experience and passion to provide tailor-made coaching for a wide range of complex physical, psychological and mental health needs, including disability of the learning, autism, dyspraxia and deafness ".
The Snowbility approach to teaching skiing and snowboarding is integrated with other skills such as social interaction, trust, self-esteem, concentration and motivation. The flexible coaching methods used by the team help each student in a different way.
"My son had a wonderful relationship with Richard's team and this gave him security, which he otherwise would not have been able to do if he went skiing with any school - said Tanya James, whose son Santino he is slightly autistic and has hypermobility syndrome - he helped him with his balance and coordination in a very fun and sporting way ".
The coaches aim to give their students a sense of accomplishment and pride through a personalized learning program tailored to their individual needs. Through this result, Richard believes he is improving his social, emotional and communication skills while improving fitness.
"Once our students ski and their families start to see changes, then everyone benefits, everyone gets involved. It's really great to see lives change so positively," added Fetherston. Snowbility is aimed at children of all ages from children up to five years to adults over the age of 65. He lectures, both private and group, seven days a week at the Snow Center. Reservations are available through the website and an application form.
