The medal table of these 46th world championships is clear. Austria and Switzerland in front of all, as expected, but the pride of Norway means that it reaches a fourth place, just behind France, which is worth a lot considering all the problems of the Scandinavians.
And Italy finally closes in sixth place, with the gold of Marta Bassino in parallel and the silver of Luca De Aliprandini in the giant: below expectations, without a doubt, even if the quality performances were not lacking and, paradoxically (but not too much, we are at the World Cup ...), he gathered where it seemed most difficult. Austria dominated with five titles, adding Pertl's silver today and two bronzes.
Switzerland had started very strong and in the end took home one more medal than their "cousins", but with three golds, one silver and five bronzes, stopping a bit in the second week with the exception of Lara Gut's masterpiece in giant -Behrami. In third place in the medal table there are therefore France of Faivre and Pinturault (with the contribution of the bronze of Worley in parallel), with 2 golds, 1 silver and 2 bronzes, then after Norway with its two titles and the bronze of Kristoffersen, here is the United States on the shoulders of Mikaela Shiffrin.
Italy is ahead of Germany, even if the Germans take four medals (three silvers and one bronze), as well as Slovakia (the two silvers of Vlhova), Croatia and Sweden with one silver each.
And at the level of individuals? There are five gold braces, even if Sebastian Foss-Solevaag's first gold arrived in a team event: together with the Norwegian we find Faivre (parallel and giant) and the historic one-two of Kriechmayr between super-g and descent. Among the women, Lara Gut-Behrami (who added a bronze downhill) and Katharina Liensberger, one of the women cover of these world championships, rejoiced twice as the Austrian also finished third in giant by attaching that medal to the two gold between parallel and slalom.
The most medalist of all, however, is still Mikaela Shiffrin: 4 in 4 races, with gold in alpine combined, silver in giant and bronze in slalom and super-g.
