Austria finds Feller for the giants of Santa Caterina Valfurva, but loses Ortlieb and Tippler for Sankt Moritz

The Tyrolean is managing his chronic back problems and will be back on Saturday and Sunday after 9 months. The two sprinters between Covid and injuries: there will be no speed opening.

Men's Austria recovers one of their best gigantists, even if the conditions are not yet at the top and the level shown up to a couple of seasons ago in the discipline will not be easy to find. Manuel Feller will be back in the race in the two giants of Santa Caterina Valfurva, more than nine months after the last weekend played in Hinterstoder last season; the 28-year-old from Fieberbrunn has partially solved his back problems, in the sense that the worsening of the problems that emerged a year ago in Beaver Creek (but which has been dragging on for years) are now managed with a different training methodology and physiotherapy . At the “Kronen Zeitung”, Feller confirmed that he feels “ready and motivated. Of course, I could have competed in Soelden and maybe finished 15, but it would have been too little anyway. I preferred to start from scratch and, also from a mental point of view, I am much freer ”. For his coach Marko Pfeifer, "the top 10 would be something fantastic, a possible 15 finish". For the good news coming from the men's sector, also considering the victory yesterday in the first European Cup giant by Raphael Haaser, there are a decidedly negative couple from the girls of the Wunderteam. The Austrian speed squadron will be incomplete for the opening in Sankt Moritz: the two super-gs scheduled for Saturday and Sunday will see Stephanie Venier at the start, but far from the best condition after contracting Covid in early November, while Tamara will not be there Tippler, also affected by the virus, and Nina Ortlieb who, just yesterday, suffered an injury in training in Obergurgl. As ORF reports, the condition of the knee is still to be assessed, but the absence of the daughter of art in the Upper Engadine is certain, with the hope of returning to Val d''Isère (as in the case of Tippler) to resume the thread of the speech with that last race disputed by Nina in La Thuile, when in the super-g last February 29 she obtained her first success in the World Cup by beating Federica Brignone, launched towards the crystal ball, by just one cent.
