The US national team is certainly not experiencing an exciting moment in terms of the production of high-level athletes. Financial issues have been an open question for years, although in the new millennium authentic champions of the sport have emerged such as Bode Miller, Lindsey Vonn, Ted Ligety and, clearly a beacon of the current team with stars and stripes, Mikaela Shiffrin.
Behind the champion of Eagle, however, we see very little especially in the women's team, even if the speed team was literally targeted by injuries (think of Breezy Johnson and Jacqueline Wiles in particular); to make the young women of the future grow, the US Ski & Snowboard Team has therefore chosen one of its former athletes, to entrust him with the role of head coach of the European Cup women's team.
This is Paul Casey Puckett, who fans will remember at the turn of the 2000s, given that the 1972 class competed in the World Cup for almost a decade collecting 81 bibs, from the technical specialties with which he started up to speed, but getting the best career result in the Kitzbuehel combined in January 2001, finished in fourth position. After finishing the trip in the white circus with the last FIS races in 2006, Puckett then dedicated himself to skicross, playing his fifth Olympiad in Vancouver 2010, after four in alpine skiing with the surprising 7th place in the slalom of the Lillehammer 1994 Games (when Tomb was silver behind Stangassinger).
"Ski Racing" anticipated the official nature of the US federation, interviewing the new technician of the United States talents who, for the previous nine years, worked for the Aspen Valley Ski & Snow Club: "When the call from Jesse Hunt came , I could not say no - Puckett confessed on the choice of the head of the alpine skiing sector - I was able to meet staff and athletes already in the June meeting in Copper Mountain (the next will take place in the second part of July in Mount Hood) , it was also very useful for really exceptional training conditions.
The idea is to spend a lot of time in Europe, because the continental circuit is a real gym for forging athletes heading for the World Cup, but it is clear that points are also needed to compete in it and we will therefore also dedicate ourselves to Nor-Am Cup. The talent is there, you need to work on the technical bases to go strong in all conditions: if results arrive in the European Cup, I am convinced that then the doors will open to do well even in the maximum circuit. "
