There will be only three Norwegians competing in the first speed weekend of the men's World Cup, but decidedly fierce.
For the descent on Saturday (with the first test on Thursday at 10.30) and the super-g on Sunday in Val d''Isère, will be Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, Kjetil Jansrud (who has already made his debut this season by not qualifying for the giants of Santa Caterina) and Adrian Smiseth Sejersted, fresh from the commitments of the European Cup in Zinal, to take to the track on the “Oreiller-Killy” for both races. No super-g, therefore, for Henrik Kristoffersen who will focus on the consecutive triptych between giants in Alta Badia, slalom always on the Gran Risa and again between the narrow poles on “his” 3Tre in Campiglio.
Switzerland has also formalized the call-up for the race weekends: ten men for Val d''Isère, but only six are sure to participate in the downhill and super-g on the "OK": it's Beat Feuz, Urs Kryenbuehl, Niels Hintermann, of the cup leader Marco Odermatt also expected in speed, and of the returning Carlo Janka and Mauro Caviezel, who gave good signals in training in Cervinia with the Azzurri. The other two bibs for the downhill will be played during the two tests tomorrow and Friday, Nils Mani, Gilles Roulin, Stefan Rogentin and Ralph Weber, who won the super-g of the European Cup in Zinal last Monday.
On the other hand, nine women are expected in Courchevel for the two giants on Saturday and Sunday: a real squadron led by Wendy Holdener, Michelle Gisin (increasingly consistent between the wide doors) and Lara Gut-Behrami, but there will also be Melanie Meillard, a Corinne Suter who will want to test herself even before the triptych of fast races of the following week right in Val d''Isère, as well as Priska Nufer, Andrea Ellenberger, Camille Rast and Jasmina Suter.
