Sensational in Oberstdorf: Italy returns home en bloc from the World Cup after the latest positive results

The decision of the FISI is official: after the farewell of the jumping and Nordic combined team, the entire cross-country team also leaves the world championship. A World Cup without medals ends in the worst way.

The FISI has decided that all the blue teams must immediately leave Oberstdorf and the Nordic ski world championships, with five days before the conclusion of a world championship shaken by the latest Covid cases, including the sensational one of the number 1 in the jump, Halvor Egner Granerud. As is known, in recent days the positivity within the women's jumping team had emerged, with all the Nordic combined and jumping teams returned home. Now it's the turn of the entire cross-country skiing team, as the federal statement states: "In application of federal protocols, the Nordic ski national teams (including technicians, service men and general staff), involved in the World Championships in Oberstdorf, subjected to daily swab, even beyond the measures required by the local organization, to ensure greater safety and tranquility of the athletes in the competition. Unfortunately, positive cases were found among the general staff and the technicians of the Italian mission. Therefore, the Federal President in agreement with the team doctor Dr. Balestrieri, present on the spot, have decided to bring the representatives present at the German World Cup back to Italy, both to safeguard the health of the Italian athletes and to ensure a safe continuation of the world championships ”. Thus ends in the worst way an already very bitter world championship for Italy, without medals and no more chance to try, starting from the 15 km in free technique scheduled for today, starting at 1.15 pm, passing through the relay races of the next two days and the 30 and 50 km on Saturday and Sunday.
