The World Luge Championships on natural track postponed by one week: the weather changes the calendar

The world championship, scheduled for next weekend in Umhausen (Austria), has been moved to 12-14 February. With the blues aiming for several medals.

In Umhausen, everything was ready for the 23rd edition of the natural toboggan world championships. But the copious rains of the past few days and the too high temperatures have made the Grantau slope soft, so far well prepared, so much so as to make it unthinkable to run the competitions regularly from 5 to 7 February. The local organizing committee led by Hansjoerg Posch and Bruno Kammerlander, president of the organizing association SV Umhausen, together with FIL, immediately sought a good solution. Therefore, the World Cup stage in Laas will be brought forward, so it will take place from Monday 8th to Wednesday 10th February, immediately afterwards the world championship event will finally be staged, from Friday 12th to Sunday 14th February. “We were well prepared, but we have to bow to the weather. It's a shame, but it can happen when you organize an outdoor sporting event. We reacted immediately and, with the postponement, we were able to find a solution that was good in our eyes and correct for the athletes. Here we want to thank FIL race director Andreas Castiglioni and our colleagues from Lasa, who were really very flexible in anticipating their race. We often talk in public about the "natural toboggan family" and this is an example of how this is not empty rhetoric. In difficult times we are united like a big family ”, explain Posch and Kammerlander. The new program of the World Cup races, which will take place in three rather than four days, has been defined by the organizers in collaboration with the leaders of the FIL. It will therefore begin on Friday 12 February with the training of the national teams. The competitions for the titles of luge on natural track will then go live on Saturday 13 when, starting at 10.30, the world champion of the women's single will be decreed, while at 11.30 the double final will begin. Sunday 14 February, on the other hand, will be marked by the men's singles competitions (final start at 11.30am) and the team competition (at 1.30pm).
