From Ghiotto to Lorello and Pergher, the Italian speed skaters gathering in Baselga di Piné for the second camp

The powerhouse Italian speed skating team, which made fans dream at the latest Milan Cortina Olympic Games, starting with Francesca Lollobrigida’s 3000m-5000m double, will resume on-ice training. She will sit out next season due to her new motherhood but is ready to return to the ice with Alpes 2030 in mind.

This is the second summer preparation camp ahead of the 2026/27 competitive winter season for the Italian team, who will be training in Baselga di Piné from today until Saturday 5 September.

Eighteen athletes have been called up on the recommendation of head coach Matteo Anesi, and will be overseen by coach Alessandro Mazzoleni Ferracini and assistant David Bosa. The women selected are Giorgia Aiello (Fiamme Gialle), Noemi Libralesso (Noale Ice), Alice Marletti (Fiamme Gialle), Serena Pergher (Fiamme Oro), Giulia Presti (Fiamme Gialle), Linda Rossi (Fiamme Azzurre), Emily Tormen (Fiamme Oro) and Maybritt Vigl (C.S. Carabinieri). The men training are Mattia Bernabè (S.C. Pergine), Francesco Betti (Fiamme Oro), Manuel De Carli (C.P. Piné), Daniele Di Stefano (Fiamme Oro), Davide Ghiotto (Fiamme Gialle), Manuel Ghiotto (Fiamme Oro), Riccardo Lorello (C.S. Esercito), Michele Malfatti (Fiamme Gialle), Lorenzo Minari (Skating Trento) and Jeffrey Rosanelli (Fiamme Gialle).

Meanwhile, the FISG Federal Council has set the date for the 48th Ordinary Elective National Assembly, scheduled for next Saturday, 24 October, at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Bolzano. It is a key appointment for the entire ice sports community, after the assembly held on 25 July ended without the election of the Federal President, with Andrea Gios failing to secure the threshold for a fourth consecutive term and therefore unable to stand as a candidate.
