Ski Meeting 2018. Italy, France and Austria are confronted on teaching techniques

The Third International Meeting of Representatives of Italy, France and Austria took place in St. Anton am Arlberg on April 10th-12th 2018. The annual meeting has as its main objective the protection of the professional figure of the ski instructor in Europe and sees the delegations of these three countries as protagonists.

Luciano Magnani, President of the National College of Ski Instructors, intervened during all the meetings strengthening the value of the Italian ski instructors and stressed the importance of these comparisons between professionals who have allowed to protect the professional figure internationally. The delegate to manage relations with Europe is Vice President Beppe Cuc who coordinated the three meetings and managed relations with other countries. The international meeting allowed the participants to generate a comparison between the main European Skiing Nations to share techniques, methodologies and teaching approaches for the professional training of the Ski Instructors. The "trait d'union" between Italy, France and Austria, to protect the professional recognition of the title of Ski Instructor, has allowed to dictate the guidelines in Europe regarding the promulgation of the professional card, identified as an instrument recognized by the authorities European authorities and individual countries, to promote the free movement of professionals concerned. The first of these meetings took place in Chamonix at the Ecole Nationale de Ski et d'Alpinisme (ENSA) in April 2016; the second was managed in Livigno by the Italian delegation in April 2017, and the last one has just ended in St. Anton am Arlberg. During the first meeting, ENSA hosted the Italian and Austrian delegation. The meetings in the field and in the classroom gave the opportunity to discuss the training course of the ski instructors, adopted by the individual countries, both from a technical, educational and methodological point of view. The organizational structure of the French school was presented, from which it was possible to draw some ideas to improve the commercial aspects related to ski instructors and territorial tourism development. In particular, on the field there was a comparison on the technical progression and on the development of the educational path proposed in the ski schools. On the occasion of the first meeting, Italy and Austria presented some documents used during the training and professional updating, which allowed to deepen specific issues regarding the methodology related to the development of the figure of the Ski Instructor. Last year in Livigno, during the second meeting, between the various topics of discussion and discussion, Italy presented the selection method and the training path of the National Alpine Ski Instructors (federal trainers). This occasion has allowed to underline the technical value of the Italian National Instructors, who have distinguished themselves for their elegance and competence. Within our training system, another field of interest for other nations has been the method of technical reconfirmation, in which all the Italian instructors are engaged every three years, in order to guarantee a high and constant technical level, year after year . It is important to highlight the commercial aspects that have emphasized the interventions of Austria, regarding a project on teenagers and France, on the development and dissemination of information on mountain safety, through social media and ski schools. In this context, the method by which the three nations deal with the preparation and development of the module called "Eurosécurité" was presented and discussed and it was increasingly important to enhance and deepen the issues concerning the safety and prevention of mountain hazards. . This year, for the third time, the three delegations met, hosted by Austria in St. Anton am Alberg, in particular in the training center and the Austrian Alpine Ski Center, based in St. Christoph. The Italian delegation formed by 5 National Instructors, was represented by: Alborghetti Giuseppe, Borio Paolo, Marsaglia Eugenio, Fossati Ferdinando and Ponato Carolina. Austria led the days on the field accompanying the delegations on a route through the Arlberg mountains that allowed to confront the world of freeride, mountaineering and skiing on the track, to share their skiing culture within the "dynamic" system that they possess to teach and manage lessons. The development of the Austrian technical didactic path derives not from specific lessons, but from a series of "experiences" that the master / guide brings to know, so as to immerse himself in the mountain and in the surrounding nature. The clientele, therefore, manages to progress thanks to the multilaterality of the proposed lesson. The Austrian delegation also illustrated the training structure, in which the path to becoming a ski instructor is divided into three levels. This subdivision makes it possible to provide teachers to ski schools already during the training, so that those directly involved can work and get immediate experience in the field. The last level is comparable to the Italian ski instructor, who foresees passing the Eurotest, Eurosécurité tests and a "guide" exam, which allows the instructors to accompany the client in any way or route offered by the ski area. The annual meeting is therefore an event that allows trainers to develop new skills and increase the know-how of each single country. It also makes it possible to consolidate the institutional relations between our countries, which represent the history of skiing and in which are inserted the most prestigious ski resorts frequented by fans of this wonderful sport.
