The high temperatures and the lack of snow are causing difficulties for the ski areas, many of which have been forced to close the ski slopes.

It is an anomalous heat that of this winter season which is seeing many districts surrender and close the ski slopes. As reported by 3bMeteo, the start of the new year promises to be decidedly mild for Europe: the presence of the sub-tropical anticyclonic promontory and the arrival of milder air contribute to the continuation of the non-winter with temperatures well above above the typical average for the period, even above 10°C in the central-northern states.
In most of the ski resorts in the North, the snow is spring-like as early as mid-morning and in many places, as it does not freeze at night, the snow conditions are already bad in the early morning.
Piazzatorre-Monte Torcola, for example, a ski resort located in the Alta Val Brembana, announced yesterday, January 2, the temporary closure of the ski slopes due to the high temperatures and the rain that do not allow the slopes to be prepared well. The school camp and the Gremei chairlift for the transport of pedestrians remain open.
The situation is especially critical in the Apennines where only the school camp at Cimone and the school camp at Abetone are open. All this has created serious inconvenience, especially during the Christmas holidays when there were many cancellations. Many ski instructors in the Apennine area had to go to work in the ski areas of Northern Italy at Christmas and New Year's, a period of the season in which there is more work. Roccaraso, one of the most renowned ski areas in Central Italy, is proposing other types of activities such as mountain karting and keeping some ski lifts in operation to allow tourists to make panoramic and eat typical dishes of the area in the refuge. period in which there is more work than the whole winter season.
Record heat not only in Italy, but also in other countries such as Switzerland which has seen several ski resorts close due to lack of snow and too high temperatures. Some of the locations where the ski slopes are closed are Splügen-Tambo (although the lifts start at 1484 meters high and go up to 2215 meters), Hochwang, Beckenried/Klewenalp-Emmetten/Stockhütte, La Dôle/Les Tuffes where the lifts reach only up to an altitude of 1678 meters, Marbach-Marbachegg, Moléson (even if the slopes are located over 2000 meters above sea level), Sattel–Hochstuckli and Grimmialp.
