Due to the health emergency, South Tyrol risks not opening the ski lifts for Christmas. Trentino, on the other hand, is confident and assumes the start of the winter season around 15 December.

The situation in South Tyrol, which has been declared a red zone, concerning the opening of the ski lifts, which still does not find a date, is worrying.
In a recent press conference, the President of the Province of Bolzano, Arno Kompatscher, said: “Infections and deaths are still very high, at the moment we are thinking about something else. We have to bend the curve and we hope to succeed with the sacrifices of the citizens and the various restrictions enacted in recent weeks. Before thinking about skiing, we must be able to reopen childcare services, schools and business activities. The winter season, if it starts, will do it late. And this will depend on the one hand if we manage to get below 50 weekly infections on average, and then on the European situation - South Tyrol must return to being a tourist destination, this must be a goal. But today I would not create many expectations regarding the Christmas period. I hope that after Christmas many more activities are possible. But we must be clear in mind that it will be a very difficult winter ”.
Although the date of the possible start of the winter season is still uncertain, many South Tyrolean ski areas have just begun to snow the ski slopes in these days.
Different situation instead in Trentino, at the moment the yellow area (but it could change color in the next few hours) where the Councilor the Councilor for Tourism of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Roberto Failoni, in the last few days said that the ski lifts could open around 15 December when the Ski World Cup on the Italian snow will begin. Recently, the Councilor, in a post on the official personal page, had also announced the allocation of 5 million euros by the Council of Trento for programmed snow making, as an aid for the winter sports sector.

Mottarone
Il Mottarone, alto 1.492 metri, sorge in una posizione privilegiata tra il Lago Maggiore e il Lago d’Orta.
