South Tyrol
Battles, controversies and confrontations on a long list of names in South Tyrol are 132 places that would keep only the German name. The agreement was signed on August 1 but the list came to light only in last days. The controversy has deep roots and relates to the place names in the territories of the province of Bolzano.

Here the supporters of a political separatist South Tyrol would like to keep the names only in German, while the Cai and other associations and political parties are more likely to bilingualism.
The 132 names are part of a list of 1,526 places for which, years ago, had been installed thousands of signs in German language only. From here it was the outbreak of the controversy that led to an agreement which established the first indication of the names widely used for the municipalities and localities in their respective languages ​​and the preservation of the historical names in German, but always with the Italian translation of generic names (such as top, peak, mountain or alpine).
At the end of the work were about 150 names on signs to be left exclusively in German; 700 names to be reported in two languages ​​(eg Rosengarten Rosengarten-or-challenged Steinalm Malga Sasso), and finally another 45% of the total would keep the name in German with generic indication in Italian.
The committee's proposal, however, was not accepted, the result seemed too biased towards the Italian into German and too little much to ask for an additional 300 names were left only in German. The agreement is not yet in final form, and it would not be formalized because of certain names would require further study. Remains uncertain the fate of another dozen names, which was not found at the time an agreement: among them there would also be the Summit of Italy (in German Lausitzer Weg), Malga Sasso (in German Steinalmen ), Ameto (Amaten), etc..
The Minister Graziano Delrio in a recent statement made it clear that: "The agreement is concerned not with the general issue of place names in South Tyrol, but the only signs on the mountain trails, and reaching understanding in the direction of a conquest of coexistence and bilingualism. agreements are not reached between the parties if it remains entrenched, but only if you are willing to build bridges and crossing borders. "
