Epickski.com, one of the largest online communities frequented by ski enthusiasts, has been closed by Vail Resort.

The web community was born in 1999 and became the largest English-language forum frequented by skiers. During these 19 years the Americans have written millions of posts and posted photos. Whatever they had to ask, they found the answer: ski lessons, materials, ski resorts, travel, schools.
In 2010, Vail Resort bought Mountain News Corp, owned by Othersnow.com, and soon joined skiinfo.com. He merged both portals while retaining the name of the former and bought some sites in Europe. Shortly after buying Onthesnow.com, Epicski appeared under the direction of OntheSnow.com retaining the name.
This is a major loss. Some say it says that since Vail Resort bought the portal, it was already going to close it because it coincided with the name of its flagship product, the Epic Pass.
The real reason though is that the forum was developed on a "Huddler" platform, which was acquired by Wikia in 2014, incorporating developers and projects in progress. Wikia has decided to close the "Huddler" project. Vail Resort could still make a data transfer, but without a shadow of doubt it would be a huge job. And who knows if those of Vail have taken advantage of the situation to get Epick ski so the name will no longer interfere with his seasonal ski pass.
