From 14 to 16 December winter sports will be the protagonists of Winter Session 2018, the event dedicated to the mountain that will be held in L'Aquila in the Parco del Castello and on the Gran Sasso d'Italia.

The Mountain Village will be set up where it will be possible to try out sporting activities such as mountain biking, climbing, Nordic walking and slackline, while two large heated igloos will welcome the most chilly ones, who will find the latest articles related to the mountain in exhibitors' area, have a drink or taste specialties in the restaurants. News of this Winter Session is the Igloo Apreski where every day from 15.30 until night you can meet to drink in the company beers and cocktails.
"Our mountain is an integral part of the overall project of a renovated and enhanced city. On the other hand, I believe - explains Pierluigi Biondi, Mayor of L'Aquila - that initiatives on several occasions, such as the Winter Session, make it clear to the public that our Gran Sasso is a treasure to be enjoyed 365 days a year. Well, therefore, the seasonal sessions and well prepare for the 2019 edition on the particular anniversary of the tenth anniversary ".
The Festival will be attended by Nives Meroi and Romano Benet who will be guests of honor of the kermis on Saturday 15 November at 8.30 pm at the Auditorium of the Parco del Castello. The two mountaineers were the first couple in the world to succeed in the effort to scale all 14 eight thousand, without the use of extra oxygen or high altitude carriers.
In 1998 Nives Meroi was the first Italian woman to climb to the top of Nanga Parbat. A climb that also represents the first eight thousand by the two. The last one, however, dates back to last year, when Meroi and Benet reached the summit of the Annapurna.
The event is organized and financed by the Municipality of L'Aquila (through the Mountain Festival committee), conceived by the Gran Sasso Year Zero association and made possible also with contributions from the Restart program and the Carispaq Foundation.

Dolomiti UNESCO, il bilancio di Banca d'Italia: +9% di pernottamenti senza consumare più territorio
Il paper di Banca d'Italia analizza gli effetti sui flussi turistici e sull'ambiente nei 4 anni successivi all'iscrizione delle Dolomiti nella lista dei Patrimoni Mondiali dell'Umanità, avvenuta nel 2009. A fronte di un incremento delle presenze, il numero di strutture turistiche non è cresciuto e quello di posti letto si è ridotto. Ai maggiori flussi turistici non si è associato né un aumento del consumo di suolo né una maggiore produzione di rifiuti, dimostrando il potenziale del riconoscimento UNESCO nel generare benefici economici locali senza compromettere la qualità ambientale, a condizione che siano in atto un efficace coordinamento istituzionale e solide garanzie normative.
