Wednesday and Thursday the show in San Candido: big Azzurri ok in today's double qualification

Skicross World Cup: the last races of 2022 on the "Baranci", with Jole Galli doing well in the qualifying phase, while Naeslund still dominates. Among men, Deromedis without problems.

A great show, on the most difficult slope in the world for this discipline, so much so that San Candido is called the "Kitzbuehel of ski cross". Wednesday and Thursday here is the by now traditional South Tyrolean double appointment, on the "Baranci" which today hosted the qualifiers both for race-1 and, in a second phase, for the second race which will take place in two days. Good news for Italy, with Jole Galli getting the pass for both matches; despite a not so brilliant start in the morning qualifying, the rider from Livigna was able to recover well in the final part of the track for the 9th time overall. In the encore a few hours later, a still convincing performance for the only blue at the start, with a small flaw on the "Dragon" which brought Jole back to ninth place, delayed by 2"60 compared to the usual, uncatchable Sandra Naeslund, who preceded Fanny Smith and Daniela Maier in both qualifiers. Among men, best time in the morning for the Austrian Mathias Graf; second, at 53 cents, the French Bastien Midol ahead of the Canadian Reece Howden (+ 0”60). In the afternoon, the former alpine skier repeated his best time ahead of the German Florian Wilmsmann, trailing by 10 cents, with Howden third again. Two Azzurri qualified for race-1, which will take place on Wednesday 21 starting at 12.00: they are Dominik Zuech, best of the Italians with the tenth time at 1"04 from Graf, and Simone Deromedis 12th at 1"13. Edoardo Zorzi, 38th, Federico Tomasoni, 39th, Filippo Zamboni 47th and Yanick Gunsch, 48th, failed to get past the morning session. Deromedis turned out to be the best blue in the second qualifying, with the 13th time at 1"42. Fair performance also by Zuech, 19th, while Edoardo Zorzi, 32nd, manages to qualify by the cracks with the last time available. Out by a trifle Federico Tomasoni, 33rd, also out Gunsch 36th and Zamboni 42nd.
