Retornaz flies at Oakville with three wins, Team Zisa dominate their second match, while Zardini Lacedelli and teammates are 1-1

The Stu Sells Oakville Tankard is continuing for the four Italian teams competing in the international tournament on the ice in Ontario.

Friday saw the expected debut of Team Zardini Lacedelli, the only Italian women’s team among the 22 teams in Oakville: skip Giulia Zardini Lacedelli, Marta Lo Deserto, Elena Antonia Mathis and Rachele Scalesse first won their game against Rozon (7-5 the final score), before losing to the Canadian team skipped by Sherry Middaugh (4-6).

In the men’s event (32 teams competing, also using a triple-knockout format), Team Retornaz (with Joel on the ice alongside Alberto Pimpini, Andrea and Stefano Gilli) are enjoying a perfect run as they race toward the final stage: after their winning debut, the Italian quartet followed up with narrow victories first against Fournier (7-6), and then in the big match against world runners-up Team Dunstone, whom they defeated 5-4.

After starting with a win, Team Trentino Spiller (twins Cesare and Stefano, along with Amos Mosaner and Sebastiano Arman) had to bow out 7-3 in their second match against Lukas Klima’s Czech team, while Team Dolomiti Zisa (with Alberto Zisa alongside Giacomo Colli, Francesco Vigliani, Francesco De Zanna and Mattia Giovanella), who had begun a new Canadian campaign by losing a photo finish to Mooibroek, dominated their clash with Team Thompson-Brown, winning 9-1.
