Simone Deromedis in the history of blue skicross: he is the podium in Val Thorens, after almost 16 years

The splendid third from Trentino in the CdM race won by the Swiss Alex Fiva. A result that is anything but casual, for the most anticipated talent of a constantly growing movement ... with a view of Beijing.

A podium with a flavor of history, a placement awaited for almost 16 years, exactly from February 3, 2006 when Karl-Heinz Molling obtained a second place on the snow of the Czech Republic. Simone Deromedis wrote today, in the second consecutive round of Val Thorens, a very important chapter for the Italian ski cross: the very young Trentino took a historic podium, in the third round of the World Cup, climbing on the third step behind the Swiss Alex Fiva and the transalpine, already winner of race 1 on Saturday, Terence Tchiknavorian. It is a result that confirms the qualities of an athlete already vice world champion of specialties at jr and fourth level in the CdM stage of last season in Idre Fjaell: a beautiful launch towards the rest of the season, with the stages of Arosa and San Candido already on the horizon, thinking also and above all of the Beijing Olympic Games. At home Italy, Zuech, Zorzi and Gunsch did not pass the cut, at the end respectively 42nd, 53rd and 55th. The women's race saw the trio, in as many seasonal races, of Sandra Naeslund (20th pearl in the World Cup), who beat the great rival Fanny Smith and the Canadian Marielle Thompson; good ninth place for Lucrezia Fantelli, with Jole Galli finally 14th.
