Secrets of the Ice
"Secrets of the Ice" has recovered from the Digervarden glacier, skiing and above all the best preserved bindings from the pre-Viking era, which dates back to over 1300 years ago. An exceptional discovery.

The group of researchers had been monitoring the area for 7 years, hoping to recover the second wooden object as well, in an even better state of conservation than the first. The ski extracted from the ice last September 26 measures 187 by 17, 17 cm longer and 2 wider than the one found in 2014 on the mountain at the foot of the municipality of Lesja, where the biathlete brothers Lars and Tora Berger grew up, near Lillehammer , site of the 1994 Winter Games.
The different sizes would probably be due to the different depths (4-5 meters) in which they remained in the glacier. The back is also pointed and not straight in the previous one. The most interesting elements are undoubtedly the 3 intertwined birch, a leather strap and a wooden gusset that pass through the hole in the "prehistoric" ski support, unlike the other one, in which it was found. only one attack. Both skis have a hole in the tip. There are subtle differences in the incisions on the front of the skis.
In the world there are also much older ones but there is only one other pair similar, with “original” attacks, which are found in Mänttä, Finland. Before this discovery it was believed that in ancient times skis were only a means of "walking" in the snow, as is done with snowshoes. The attacks suggest that as early as 700 they knew what telemark is. In Norway, Sondre Norheim was considered the inventor of the ancient downhill ski, as he was the developer of the heel binding in 1868.
