Great news for an entire movement and for the Italian national team itself, which in this discipline has been the absolute reference in the world for years.
At the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games there will be a historic first for ski mountaineering, officially included in the five-circle program as a demonstration sport, the sixteenth discipline between snow and ice 28 years after the latest Nagano 1998 novelty and which concerned the novelty of snowboarding.
The IOC Congress, staged today in Tokyo, unanimously voted for the "yes", with five races scheduled in the program of the Italian Olympics, namely the two Sprint races (male and female), the two Individual and the mixed relay, with a maximum limit of 48 athletes (24 per gender) to remain within the ceiling of the 2900 participants in the Games.
