Cortina d''Ampezzo is about to experience extraordinary years, starting with the appointment it will host in 2021 with a highly anticipated world championship event that will be anything but a single starter in view of the 2026 Games.
Alessandro Benetton, president of the Cortina 2021 Foundation and real soul of the organizing committee, does not see the time to face a double great adventure that will change one of the most famous places in the Alps, from every point of view.
"I have to admit that the excitement felt at the time of the assignment of the Games was unique - admits the well-known entrepreneur, husband of Deborah Compagnoni - I didn't think I could hear anything like that, the Milan-Cortina victory showed that this country knows how to be united and above all work well.
We will have the advantage of hosting an Alpine skiing world championship five years earlier, which already sees us very active and ready in every respect â€. From February 8th to 21st, from the Olympia delle Tofane to the slalom tracks on the Col Drusciè, the show is guaranteed: “We can't wait and we will take care of all aspects, including logistics, to give a splendid World Cup in a frame that we all know to be unique â€.
Even the councilor of the town of Ampezzo, Paola Coletti, welcomed the assignment of the Games as "a dream come true after doing everything to bring the Olympics back to Cortina, seventy years after those of 1956. It is "a victory for all of Italy, for us it will be a huge commitment, but we will have a super team to make us ready and satisfy every need of the public that will come to Cortina".
