Cortina, Milan and Turin deliver the dossiers for the Games of 2026

They arrived at Coni within the established deadline, that is today's 18, the feasibility studies of the three Italian cities that applied to the Winter Games of 2026.

The partnership between Milan and Turin has faded, as the Milanese mayor Giuseppe Sala has pointed out polemically, blaming the Turin mayor Chiara Appendino, but not only to her, the Milanese dossier provides for the Olympic village in one of the disused railway stations that will be redeveloped. Given that the plants are those of 2006, even if someone in bad condition like Pragelato's trampoline and not in function as the gut of Cesana Pariol, Appendino points to an Olympics with a limited budget and sustainable financial and environmental. The village is expected in the former Thyssen area in Corso Regina, the northern area of the city that is suffering and needs a revival. The dossier of Cortina d'Ampezzo also arrived in the morning, and here too the desire to take the road to sustainability was reiterated. It was the governor of the Veneto Luca Zaia who supported this candidacy and not that of a metropolitan city favoring that of a mountain place. In reality, the Olympic contests would also take place in Trentino-Alto Adige: in Cortina alpine skiing, snowboarding, freestyle, bobsleigh, tobogganing and curling would be staged, in the Val di Fiemme the Nordic skiing, in Baselga di Pinè the speed skating on the track long, in Bolzano and Merano hockey, figure skating and short track and biathlon in Anterselva. Within a week it should be the government that decides the Italian candidate between these three cities. If they were chosen, Cortina or Turin would be both at the second Olympics, respectively 70 and 20 years after the first, while for Milan it would be an absolute first Olympic. Currently the other candidates are the Canadian Calgary, the Japanese Sapporo, the Swedish Stockholm, the Turkish Erzurum and the Austrian Graz.
