Even the Olympic Village would be created using existing buildings.
Sion in Switzerland, and Calgary in Canada, who have been chosen for the 1988 Games, are among the other possible candidates, more in the background talking about Almaty, Kazakhstan, already on the last balloting with Beijing for the Games 2022, Sapporo , in Japan, headquarters of the 1972 Olympics and Erzurum, Turkey, recently organized by the Winter Universiade 2011. And regarding the first mentioned capital of the canton of Valais, the Swiss Federal Council postponed its decision on Sion's candidacy for the Games in question, then 2026.
The choice of whether or not the Government's economic support was actually awaiting yesterday, Wednesday, 11 October, but nothing has been confirmed, either in one sense or in the other. The members of the Organizing Committee and the Swiss Olympic Committee submitted to the Federal Government a Flexibility Document last August, divided into three sections, covering the technical subject, the budget and an additional report. The plans were actually evaluated by the Federal Council, but a unanimous verdict has not yet been reached on whether to confirm or not. However, this does not mean that "no" is more likely than "yes", simply in such cases the Council always takes a little extra time to decide on the delicacy of the argument.
In the coming weeks, the final answer will come. If the candidature were to go to port, most likely, as will happen next Sunday in Innsbruck, a referendum will be held in the canton of Valais, while the horizon will eventually be expanded to another five Swiss cantons.
