History of Calgary
The session of the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) unanimously approved the candidacy of Calgary for the Winter Games of 2026 last Saturday.

"This represents a very important and positive step forward towards Calgary's candidacy for 2026," said Tricia Smith, president of the Canadian Olympic Committee. "I want to thank the members of the session for their trust and we will continue to work with all stakeholders to create momentum to ensure a stimulating and responsible Olympic offer".
The members who made this decision are made up as follows: a representative of each National Sports Federation (NSF) who governs a sport present in the official programs of the Olympic Summer and Winter Olympics; Canadian CIO members; the members of the board of the Athletes Committee and the members of the COC board of directors.
"I want to thank all the members of Canada's winter and summer sports community for their vote of confidence that will allow us all to move forward," said Scott Hutcheson, president of Calgary 2026. "We have a lot of work ahead of us, but this It's a positive step on the road to preparing Calgary to make a bid for the 2026 Games. Together, we will work on behalf of the community to offer a transparent and dynamic offering that should offer tremendous benefits to all Canadians. "
Public involvement in the potential offer will take place in the coming months. The next steps in the process include the announcement of candidate cities during the IOC session in Buenos Aires and a plebiscite that should take place by the end of the year. The election of the host city of the Winter Games of 2026 will take place during the IOC session in September 2019. We recall that Calgary hosted the White Games of 1988, those of the explosion of Alberto Tomba with double gold in giant and slalom.
