Below is a press release announcing the appointment of Livigno by the ACES Europe Commission, the Federation of Capitai and the European Cities of Sport, as the European City of Sport in 2019.

Proclaimed yesterday 12 November in Rome by the ACES Europe Commission, Livigno is officially recognized as the 2019 European City of Sport, thanks to the services, activities and facilities that the destination offers its guests.
Last July, the ACES Europe Commission and its president Gian Francesco Lupatelli went to Livigno to evaluate its added value in terms of sport. The attention that Piccolo Tibet places towards sport is marked by the daily offer that the queen of training at high altitude, in the heart of the Italian Alps, offers its guests every day, thanks to innovation and continuous updating of the accommodation facilities, services, events and programs for young people who every day provide for different activities. Not only winter sports, but also many other outdoor sports and indoor sports: Livigno is an open-air gym located at 1816 m height that not only offers the opportunity to play sports, but also to draw the many benefits that the altitude naturally gives.
"Sport for us is of fundamental importance" says Damiano Bormolini, Mayor of Livigno "we are very honored to have received this recognition at European level, also the result of our daily commitment to make the destination accessible to all. We are happy to see how young people are passionate and how sport can also be an educational tool. The municipality is continuing to take action in actions that will extend the Livignasca sports offer at a structural level ".
The city councilor Samantha Todeschi declares: "A great goal for the destination, which confirms the importance of sporting value in a locality. Not just winter sports, but also on other activities. The commitment of the municipality is also evident from the next arrival of the athletics track and the football field, which will begin work, as well as the 50-meter Olympic pool and indoor tennis. "
