The wait is over. Tomorrow at 10:00 Italian time the start of the mixed relay, which will open the biathlon program at the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing 2022. The Azzurri will be at the start with the two bronzes won in previous editions, but the competition is not lacking and the confirmation it is not taken for granted.

As anticipated today, compared to four years ago, Italy is at the starting line with a novelty: Thomas Bormolini in place of Dominik Windisch, who in Pyeongchang won the sprint for the bronze medal with the German Peiffer. The Livigno will be engaged in the third fraction, with Hofer at the end, while the two opening fractions will be of Lisa Vittozzi and Dorothea Wierer.
After the bronzes obtained in Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018, the dream is to be confirmed on the podium, but the opponents are numerous and highly rated. Italy therefore starts as an outsider, with three nations on paper that are superior and three others with values comparable to those of the Azzurri.
Norway is an obligatory favorite, gold in Russia and "only" silver in South Korea. The norge have an apparently unscratchable quartet, with Mars Roeiseland at the launch and followed by Eckhoff, Tarjei and Johannes Boe. Perhaps the weak link could turn out to be the winner of the last World Cup, while the doubts about the Boe brothers only concern Tarjei's rifle, who had an accident in training with Samuela Comola.
Just behind the Norwegians, in a hypothetical starting grid, are France and Sweden. The transalpines present themselves as reigning champions, with a completely revolutionized formation compared to four years ago but still very competitive. Among the women there will be Anais Chevalier and Julia Simon, while in the last two stages they line up two ninety calibers: Jacquelin and Fillon Maillet. The Swedish quartet with the sisters Oeberg, Ponsiluoma and Samuelsson is very solid and equally competitive. Sweden does not boast Olympic medals in the format but the good moment seems to have arrived.
Russia, Belarus and Germany also start with podium ambitions. For the Russian Olympic Committee there will be Nigmatullina and Reztsova to open, with Loginov and Latypov in the second part of the race. Attention also to Alimbekava and Sola, who together with Labastau and Smolski could bring the first medal in the format to Belarus. The Germans, on the other hand, start slightly behind in the hierarchies but still with the ambition of a medal, fielding Voigt, Herrmann, Doll and Nawrath.
