Sofia Goggia: "I'll tell you mine ... Olympic Gold!"

BERGAMO - The 21 year old from Bergamo will be "columnist" NeveItalia of Sport during the 2014 Sochi Olympics, telling us from time to time the point of view of the races and much, much more, as these thoughts written for a cast of'' Olympiad that '' definitely would have seen one of the protagonists, but try to enjoy the same. How? Read on ....

"When you're a child and you decide to commit yourself deeply in a sport, you would not dream of getting to win one day, the gold medal at the Olympics.'s No use trying to deny it, is the dream of all athletes, the most glorious ambition to which you can aspire, the pinnacle of a career. My first memories of the Olympics, and a few rather blurry concern Turin 2006 at the time I was only 14 years old and I was impressed by the short downhill slalom Giorgio Rocca interrupted by un'inforcata.'s much different it was in Vancouver 2010. If I close my eyes I can still relive the intense emotions felt, sitting on the couch at home, during the descent of Linsdey Vonn, I had tears eyes and goose bumps to the "heart" with which he had fallen. Lindsey had made me dream about that day like no other athlete ever. I had promised myself, in my heart, I also get to compete in such an event and to commit fully to achieve the same goal that Vonn and many others were able to hit. In recent years we have tried seriously and, despite the many injuries, slowly I was able to get to the National A, another small milestone reached through the "dream" cultivated since childhood, thanks to the "fire" that always burns me inside. Exactly one year ago I was at the World Cup in Schladming, surrounded by many journalists who interviewed me for the lack of medal for that fourth place in the Super-G obtained by a descent in which I had skied "free", without any thought, without no expectation, with the same ease and with the same fun that I ran as a child. And perhaps, indeed, I am fully convinced, is just what the secret to going fast, being able to find the "child" that is within us, that trail because they like it, inspired by the deep passion, which eventually is the engine that drives us to continue. One of my companions told me "A schladming had already head to Sochi" to tell the truth, although it may seem contradictory, in those days I did not think really, even if the finish line five circles has always been in my dreams. This year, Sochi2014, I went so close, how far. With that seventh place in Beaver Creek had a half-title in his pocket, but with the fall in Lake Louise I definitely compromise my participation. Everyone, after the surgery, I repeated "Too bad .. this was the Olympic year." Never having lived such an experience I do not know what is really lost, but now the twenty-second edition is coming ... and I can imagine it is something immense. I do not know if it's worse than being injured by having a "half pass" in your pocket for games or live the frustration of not being able to ski like you could in the World Cup to meet the qualification criteria, the fact is that I agree with all athletes stayed at home a kind of suffering that brings us together. It is not easy opening Internet and social networks or reading the newspaper, noted that all concerns around Sochi. It is not easy to be a part of that happiness that radiates from the faces of my companions when I know that I could be there too, but deep in my heart I try, really try to imagine how I would feel I with them at that beautiful setting, I can, even from home, I also feel that Olympic spirit! For me it is certainly not an easy time, but the sport has taught me that in life you have the opportunity to choose: you can either depress you, isolate you, feeling sorry for yourself or you can take a positive attitude and resilient, as the situation in where you are may be adverse. Certainly it is not always easy. I will follow with attention and enthusiasm of the races and my companions of my countrymen, I will support with all my heart I'm capable of, I really hope they do their best, I really hope they return victorious. Although I do not have the opportunity to bring medals from Russia, I have one anyway to win this year, my gold will be to heal physically from this latest "hiccup" in the fed keep that flame that always burning inside me, to continue to love what I love and always in being able to get up once and for all.
