Bojan Kriaj is the most successful and the most popular Slovenian skier of all time, and he played the lead role in the greatest sporting moment of euphoria that Slovenia has ever lived. Slovenian skiing is known for his enormous wealth and for its tradition.

It has always been one of the most popular sports in the country. But the merit of having brought the sport to the world competition level is no doubt Bojan Kriaj. In the early seventies he began competing as a beautiful young blond haired showing his talent and technique in the world. When he won his first race of the World Cup in Wengen in 1980, it triggered a national euphoria that extended far beyond the world of sport. Skiing became the symbol of national identity and the Slovenian Bojan Kriaj was a national hero and the most famous sports star. When he competed in Kranjska Gora tens of thousands of people gathered to cheer him. Bojan Kriaj won 8 races of the Alpine Ski World Cup, all in slalom. It was the second highest successful skier of 80 years, second only to Ingemar Stenmark. He won a silver medal at the World Championships in Schladming in 1982. The 1986/87 season was the most successful one, where he graduated Slalom World Champion.
