Exclusive Interview with Armando Mariotti, President dell'ISMF

It is the new President Armando Mariotta International Ski Mountaineering Federation elected last June 18 in Barcelona. Passionate always been touring, the sports manager told Neveitalia the objectives of his program and everything related to World Cup races.

How to live this first phase of President dell'ISMF?

Being named President dell'ISMF gratified me very much like to long-time ski enthusiast, instructor and practical activities of CAI. With great joy and great commitment, and together with members of my group, I am planning the future of the next four years.

The new headquarters has been moved dell'ISMF from Spain to Italy. As will be structured exactly?

The head office is located in Lausanne, the bureaucratic home in Turin at the European Central Alps of Fisi, while the headquarters of the secretariat, where he does most of the work, is located in the province of Cuneo, Mondovi.

He recently said that one of his goals is to bring the ski as a discipline at the Olympic Games. How will you achieve this?

It 'a goal we have set ourselves, but not immediate because the operating time to reach this goal are long and the best ski mountaineering could become an Olympic discipline in 2022. First Assembly of the IOC must accept our federation between the Olympic, then there will be a period of observation and then maybe there are other winter sports that you aspire and then create a short list in which the IOC will make the his choice.

What are the other points of his program?

Definitely a goal is to increase international communication and the ski to make much more international than the World Cup now, or take it outside Europe.

Next year's touring schedule includes 24 races in Italy, thought to be too much?

No, it's a blessing, because these races give vitality to our sport.

Staying on the theme of the competitions, there will be news about the safety?

One of our goals is always to organize events that are as safe as possible. Do not forget, however, that ski mountaineering is practiced in the mountain and so security is never guaranteed even if the Federation is trying to do as much as possible. The security also depends on the type of race. An account is to organize a race that takes place in the mountains in spring and an account is perhaps the race that is held close to the slopes. The latter are the races on which we will aim for the World Cup because we are much more similar to those that could one day get into the Olympic program.

What do you think of the birth of the Great Course? Dall'ISMF should be sponsored, or sees it as an initiative in its own right?

At the time, from the point of view, is an initiative in its own right because the federations present in the assembly which was held last year did not accept the circuit inside the Great Course of the International Federation. Surely we will evaluate what, if we could establish connection with a movement as important as that of the Great Course.
