In Cervinia a new six-seat chairlift will replace the "Gran Sometta" ski lift

After 40 years, the "Gran Sometta" ski lift that connects the ski areas of Valtournenche and Breuil-Cervinia will be replaced by a modern six-seat chairlift.

Cervino Spa has announced on its website that the “Gran Sometta” ski lift, in operation since 1982, will be replaced by a modern 6-seater chairlift with vehicles equipped with a protective dome. It is an important facility that acts as a link between the ski areas of Valtournenche and Breuil-Cervinia in turn connected with the Swiss area of Zermatt. The path of the chairlift will coincide with that of the ski lift. The valley station is located at an altitude of 2858 meters, while the upper station is at an altitude of 3093 meters. There will be 58 vehicles in total and the journey time will be 4 minutes with a maximum speed of 5 m / s. The lift will be able to transport up to a maximum of 2400 people per hour compared to 720 for the ski lift. The reduced hourly capacity of the current lift was one of the main reasons why it was decided to replace it as long queues are formed daily at the start of the ski lift.

Argentera

Argentera
