The slopes immediately above the village cover around 20 km, while the official Vialattea listing attributes 59 slopes served by 8 lifts to the wider Claviere sector. Thanks to the ski-in/ski-out connection with Montgenèvre, the international Montgenèvre-Monts de la Lune ski area reaches 110 km of slopes. With a Vialattea ski pass, you can continue towards Cesana, Sansicario, Sestriere and Sauze d’Oulx, entering the network of more than 400 km of slopes in the large Italian-French ski area.

The local ski sector extends from the village at 1,760 metres up to around 2,650 metres at Colletto Verde. The slopes alternate between wide panoramic runs and attractive routes through the larch woods, generally sheltered from the wind and able to offer good visibility even on cloudy days. The altitude of the village and the predominantly northern exposure of several slopes also help preserve the snow reasonably well.

Claviere is particularly suitable for families and intermediate skiers. The areas near the village and Sagnalonga have beginners’ areas and easy slopes, while the runs from the Colle Bercia, Serra Granet and Gimont sectors offer a greater variety of gradients. The 90 Alta and 90 Bassa slopes also allow less experienced skiers to tackle a long panoramic descent from Colle Bercia towards the valley floor.

More advanced skiers can take on the steeper runs at Colletto Verde, the pitches on slope 100 and the Gialla slope, approved by the FIS for slalom and giant slalom and used for ski-club training. The woods of the Monti della Luna and the valleys towards Gimont also offer interesting freeride opportunities, to be tackled only in safe conditions and with adequate knowledge of the area.

The lift network consists mainly of chairlifts. Among the most efficient lifts is the automated Serra Granet-Colle Bercia chairlift, built in 2004, while other lifts, such as the 1995 La Coche four-seater, are fixed-grip and slower. The system is therefore functional but not completely uniform in terms of age and speed. The opening of the high-altitude connections towards Montgenèvre and Cesana may depend on snow conditions, wind and the lifts’ daily operating schedule.

The connection with France is Claviere’s main defining feature: in just a few minutes, you can move from the Italian slopes to those of Montgenèvre, without using a car and continuing to ski in the same mountain environment. On the opposite side, you can descend towards Cesana and take the lift towards Sansicario and Fraiteve, then continue towards Sestriere or Sauze d’Oulx. For longer routes, it is advisable to check the operating times and carefully plan your return.

In addition to alpine skiing, Claviere has three cross-country skiing loops, totalling 10 km, extending towards the border and Montgenèvre. The winter offering is completed by snowshoeing, ski touring and snow-hiking routes.

Claviere is a small, peaceful village, with hotels, apartments, restaurants and services within easy reach. The atmosphere is less sophisticated than in Sestriere and Sauze d’Oulx, but the resort is appreciated precisely for its contact with nature, intimate scale and the opportunity to spend a skiing holiday between two countries.

In summer, the area offers trekking, mountain biking, e-biking, golf and via ferrata routes. The best-known attraction is the Tibetan Bridge in the San Gervasio Gorge, part of a network of suspended routes and equipped trails. From the valley-floor paths, you can also climb towards Gimont, Colle Bercia, Colletto Verde and Monte Chaberton, crossing woods, alpine lakes and border landscapes.
