The European Cup show in Andalo: in Paganella an exciting weekend with the two female giants

Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 December, the "Olimpionica 2" slope will once again host the continental circuit in pink. Many blue hopes, in an ideal winter setting and a tried and tested organization.

The Women's European Cup has settled on the snow of the Dolomiti Paganella ski area. For the seventh time, from 2012 to today, the continental circuit in pink will stop in Andalo, for the two giants expected on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 December on a technical slope and tested as that of the "Olimpionica 2" track, with a gradient of 400 meters which represents the maximum allowed and certainly makes it the "queen" of specialty races at the female level. Not surprisingly, for years the Norwegian team has been training in Paganella to prepare for the European World Cup events, as in the next few days when Henrik Kristoffersen and his companions will be on the track after the races in Val d''Isère. The ski area is already presented in its elegant winter look thanks to the abundant snowfalls, with the staff of the Ski Team Paganella and of the Paganella Ski Consortium working hard for the organization of an international two-day event. Last year Andalo brought to the fore the Polish, class 1994, Maryna Gasienica-Daniel, who preceded in both races the French Clara Direz, but the fans will also remember the presence of a certain Alice Robinson, who did not end the giants on the Trentino snows , but it was unleashed in the following weeks until it won, on October 26th in Soelden, its first giant in the World Cup at just 17 years old. And the European Cup held in Andalo also hosted the current star of world skiing, Mikaela Shiffrin who was seventh in the 2012 giant, in addition to the Norwegian Nina Haver-Loeseth, to the Austrian Eva-Maria Brem, not to mention Meta Hrovat winner in Paganella in 2017 and Marta Bassino, who was fifth in 2013 and is now at the top of the global giant, after winning her first CdM competition in Killington. There will also be great blue hopes, for the two giants of the next weekend that represent the fifth stage of the European Cup and fourth and fifth specialty race respectively, after the two trials between the wide doors of Trysil that saw the team of Alexander Prosch get a 2nd and a 4th place with Asja Zenere and Valentina Cillara Rossi. The coach responsible for the women's national team for technical disciplines is confident about Andalo's tests: "We want to leave our mark - explains the South Tyrolean coach - because we have all the credentials to do it. Zenere hit the first podium in the European Cup in Trysil, after a good 7th place, while Cillara Rossi also finished fifth in the super-g after the 4th place in giant. All the girls of our group will compete in Andalo, while the young women will be chosen after the two days of FIS in Folgaria (where Luisa Bertani was twice the best blue, fourth and sixth in the giants dominated by the Slovenian Hrovat, Bucik and Robnik , ed) ". On the characteristics of the Olimpionica 2, Prosch analyzes: "It is the most demanding track in the entire circuit, I am sure that the organizers will do a great job to prepare it as best as possible". The blue contingent will be composed of 20 athletes: in addition to Zenere and Cillara Rossi, Luisa Bertani, Francesca Fanti, Vera Tschurtschenthaler, Petra Unterholzner, Lucrezia Lorenzi, Elisa Platino, Elena Sandulli and Carlotta Saracco are certain, but in Paganella we should also see Karoline Pichler, coming directly from the World Cup, as well as Laura Pirovano from Rieti, who is actually still in the hunt for a place in the super-g of the World Cup scheduled in Sankt Moritz over the weekend (after doing well in the speed trials of the European Cup go on stage Tuesday and Wednesday in the Engadine). An adrenaline-fueled start to the Dolomiti Paganella ski area, which in the next few days will see the inauguration of the new slope and the new “Dosson - La Selletta” cable car, a red category track 2 km long, with an average gradient of 26% and maximum of 43%, for a drop of 500 meters.

Argentera
