The Saas-Fee glacier opens the 2022 Summer Skiing season tomorrow, but for the first time the access of tourists will not be allowed. The training of the competitive teams will also be limited based on the availability of slopes on a small area of the glacier.

The Feegletscher of Saas Fee reaches up to 3600 meters of altitude and in Switzerland the winter season has had more snowfalls than in Italy, but the situation is far from rosy! 35 of the 60 training slopes have been scheduled to open, Emmanuel Rossi, Deputy Director of the ski lifts in Saas Fee, told Keystone-ATS.
About forty ski training tracks will not be used and, given the lack of snow, the situation will be reassessed every week. The hope is the same as we felt both at the Stelvio Pass and in Zermatt, namely that of having a good snowfall, perhaps by the beginning of August! The high temperatures of the last two months have complicated the already unfavorable situation due to the scarce snowfall of last winter.
Global warming is prompting ski lift operators to evaluate the production of artificial snow on the glacier as a possible solution. This is a very complicated and expensive option to foresee at such high altitudes, but some locations, such as Les 2 Alpes, are already in the process of activating the catchment areas. Experiments in this direction have also been made at the Stelvio, albeit very small.

Argentera
Argentera si trova nell’alta Valle Stura, a pochi chilometri dal Colle della Maddalena e dal confine francese, in uno degli ambienti più appartati e selvaggi delle Alpi Marittime. Il comprensorio si sviluppa sopra la frazione di Bersezio, tra circa 1.630 e 2.500 metri di quota, in un paesaggio di lariceti e pendii d’alta montagna dominato dall’Oserot e dalla Rocca dei Tre Vescovi.
