Sappada is also a German-speaking linguistic island and a place where ancient traditions and architectures have remained intact over time, like houses built almost entirely of wood according to the "Blockbau" system: beams superimposed horizontally, embedded at the corners and resting on stone plinth.
On February 24, the traditional farmers' Sunday, Paurn Sunntach, one of the key days of the Plodar Vosenòcht, the Sappada Carnival, in which the various masks (letter) parade through the streets of the village showing their wooden faces hand-carved (lòrvn), often handed down from generation to generation.
The inevitable protagonist is the Rollate, whose name derives from the heavy and noisy wrought iron balls that this man / bear has tied to life, the rolln for the note. A show characterized by an ancient ritual handed down orally and that precisely for this reason follows every year the spontaneity of the participants, proposing always different shows and fashion shows.

Mottarone
Il Mottarone, alto 1.492 metri, sorge in una posizione privilegiata tra il Lago Maggiore e il Lago d’Orta. La sua vetta arrotondata è uno dei balconi panoramici più spettacolari del Piemonte: nelle giornate limpide lo sguardo abbraccia sette laghi, la Pianura Padana e gran parte dell’arco alpino, dal Monviso al Monte Rosa fino alle montagne svizzere.
