A champion stopped by an absurd season, much more for her snowboard cross than for her colleagues from other winter disciplines.
Michela Moioli, as obviously all the colleagues at the table, is experiencing a sports drama seeing canceled, one after the other, almost all the stages of a World Cup that will not even begin in the next few weeks. The FIS announced on Tuesday that the Montafon opening, already postponed by one month (to next 14-16 January 2021) due to the lack of snow in the second weekend of December for the Austrian resort, will not it will be right; the organization raised the white flag "in consideration of the health situation at the local level", thus also losing the scheduled skicross CdM race (in this case, the season has already started with the stages of Arosa and Val Thorens and the January 20 from Sweden).
Therefore, the weekend of 22-24 January in Chiesa in Valmalenco should begin with the sprint and team race which replaces, even if the organization is the same led by Franco Vismara, the appointment with the novelty absolute of Bergamo. Only the final of Veysonnaz on March 20 remains on the calendar, even if obviously the FIS is working to play at least another couple of races, with Cervinia which should recover its canceled event in December and Georgia's candidacy, for an appointment at Bakuriani on February 5-7.
Out of seven stages, five have therefore been skipped and even the world championships, we remember, are still to be reassigned (with Italy in pole position) after the Chinese withdrawal. It is said, and it is a fact linked to the numbers on which the same protagonist has joked several times, that the seasons ending with the odd year do not bring too well to Michela Moioli, who has won her three Cups of the World and the Olympic title in even years (2016-2018-2020).
And in fact we are continuing on this path, but this time without being able to compete. A huge sin, crossing our fingers to save what can be saved and looking forward to next year ... even, which rhymes with the Beijing 2022 Olympics.
