Chestnuts crackle on the fire and a red ribbon placed at the entrance door of the farms welcomes guests to the Törggelen, a tradition that has been handed down for many years and which has one true rule: conviviality.

Also called "fifth season", it is a centuries-old custom that takes place when the vine leaves turn yellow and the autumn colors invite you to stroll through the vineyards, chestnut groves, woods and picturesque mountain villages, concluding the itinerary with a food and wine stop . In this splendid setting, South Tyroleans and tourists can enjoy autumnal delicacies and new wine in the typical farms, which open their stuben until the end of November and prepare traditional dishes.
But Törggelen is not just about food, but also walks. In this particular period, it is highly recommended to take the Chestnut Trail, where colorful leaves, expanses of green meadows and centuries-old trees alternate in a very fascinating path. Here are some of the best inns and farmhouses to experience this fantastic moment. Finally, another magical place to experience Törggelen is Castelbello-Ciardes, where numerous farms offer unique hospitality and the best local, simple and traditional products, including dumplings, sauerkraut and roasted chestnuts.
Red, like all the shades of autumn in South Tyrol
When the sun gets warmer and the colors get warmer, the perfect time comes to experience South Tyrol. The leaves of the trees change from green to coppery and red tones, the light turns golden and the peaks, at certain times of the day, take on the colors of red and pink. Autumn therefore becomes the ideal time to taste local delicacies, to be amazed by the magic of the Törggelen and the foliage and becomes the perfect time for walks on cool autumn days. Do not miss the beginning of the grape harvest and the wine events, in particular the Tramin week of wine and nature from 9 to 14 October.
