Italy, fresh from Ruhpolding’s excellent fourth place, continues the journey towards Beijing 2022 and the search for the best team, to hunt for a medal in the most important moment of the season. Compared to seven days ago, the technical staff confirms 3/4 of the quartet, with Giacomel returning replacing Bionaz. At the launch there will therefore be Bormolini, fresh from good performances also in Anterselva but slightly down compared to Germany, Dominik Windisch in second and Lukas Hofer to close. The three veterans should also have their place secured for the Olympic test, with the two South Tyroleans interchangeable as positions, while the second round should concern the two youngsters. Tomorrow is a tempting opportunity to try to get on the podium, since several top nations appear in reduced ranks.
France makes a turnover and leaves Fillon Maillet to rest (Jacquelin has already left Anterselva and has not even taken part in the Mass Start). The “bleus” quartet will therefore be composed of Fabien Claude, Guigonnat, Desthieux and Perrot. Many defections also for Germany, which will have Rees, Horn, Zobel and Fratzscher, with the absences of Doll, Lesser and Kuehn; and for Sweden, which ranks Stefansson, Brandt, Stegmayr and Hallstroem. Instead, there are formation like Norway, with Laegreid, the brothers Boe and Christianse, and Russia, which fielded Babikov (which will only be reserve in Beijing), Serokhvostov, Loginov and Latypov. Attention to Belarus which fully confirms the quartet that finished third in Ruhpolding: Labastau, Lazouski, Varabei and Smolski.
