Federica Sanfilippo and exclusion from the national team: "A shock, but I continue thanks also to the words of Dorothea"

The '90 class of Val Ridanna confided to colleagues from sportnews.bz after a difficult season that took her away from team A.

On the day of the world relay race in Anterselva it was definitively understood that Federica Sanfilippo would not get up, after another disappointing performance in the race that could change her vintage. She is the veteran of the blue group together with Dorothea Wierer, to whom she is linked by a very strong friendship, and has decided not to give up even after being excluded from team A, relegated to the 2020/21 season in the group "observed" in the company of Gontier and Comola. “I also thought about retiring, before telling me that something had to change but ... I wasn't thinking about staying out of the national team. Yes, it was a shock, "the Val Ridanna biathlete told colleague Christian Staffler. “I was called a day before the announcement - Federica revealed - I didn't know anything and it was brutally surprising, as well as unexpected for me. Of course, I'm not happy with my last season and I had lost my motivation, often training alone in Val Ridanna. Working with others is important, I am currently training with Patrick Braunhofer ". A shock that seems to have delighted Sanfilippo, one of the key athletes for the fate of the blue relay, thinking in particular of the world championships in Pokljuka 2021 and the Olympic Games in Beijing 2022. “Now I want to turn disappointment into anger and bite. Something has already changed, I feel like I haven't shown my full potential yet. I can do more, so I will continue to compete ". Sanfilippo knows that the place in the World Cup will have to be conquered: “We will have internal qualifications, even if I don't know exactly how it will work. Everything is at stake, but my goal will be to wrest the call for the World Cup ". And Dorothea Wierer has helped Federica in the hardest moment of the last few weeks, once her exclusion from the national cadres has been announced: “Doro has given me a more positive view of the situation, has calmed me and I hope that soon we will be able to train together again. I accepted the downgrade, even if I didn't understand it completely. It is not the first time that I have to get up and I will do it again ".
