The Piedmontese, protagonist of the last world championships in Altenberg, has now returned to the lane to face the Covid-19 emergency. His own story.

In these weeks of intense suffering for all of Italy, there is also the story of Lucrezia Tavella to give strength to a country that fights daily against the invisible opponent. Thirty years to go in July, the native of Sommariva del Bosco (Cn) had been working for two years at the hospital in Chivasso (To) as a health and social worker when, last summer, she replied via Instagram to an invitation from the technician of artificial bob Giovanni Mulassano, looking for new prospects for the women's specialty team. After all, you have sport in your blood, having practiced athletics (400 and 800 meters) for up to twenty years, and then specializing in CrossFit at a competitive level. "I was fascinated by the idea of taking part in a promising project, so I decided to quit my job and try this sporting adventure full time - explains Lucrezia - In short, I got back into the game".
A period of learning was enough to join the group and participate in some European Cup races as a brakeman (obtaining a sixth and ninth place in Sigulda), up to the experience of the World Championships in Altenberg, Germany. "Then, on February 23, I returned to Italy just when the health emergency linked to Covid-19 entered its most dramatic phase. The following day I received a call from the hospital, they asked me if I wanted to come back to help and I didn't hesitate for a moment. "
Since then Lucrezia has returned to devote herself body and soul to positive people hospitalized in the Turin hospital, with daily shifts of up to 12 hours, because this is what matters on particularly delicate days. “It goes without saying that the situation is understandably fearful in all of us, even if we know perfectly well the risks we face. Every morning we undergo routine checks, we are on the front line and we support each other with doctors and nurses, we support psychological material to patients, which goes beyond the medical question. My life at the moment is marked by work, I have seen people missing in complete solitude because relatives cannot assist them, with doctors forced to notify them by phone.
But I want to think positive and look forward, it seems to me that in the last few days the situation has been slightly improving. I am sure that in a few months we will go back to living the life to which we have been accustomed until some time ago, we will obtain the most beautiful victory and afterwards it will be even more beautiful to pursue my sporting dream which is to participate in the 2022 Beijing Olympics ".
