Blue curling can smile: Claudio Pescia will be the national team dt until Milan Cortina 2026

The technical director will lead the blue teams up to the home Olympic Games, after the resounding gold of Constantini-Mosaner (led together with Violetta Caldart, also confirmed) and the exponential growth of the men's team.

The blue curling continues in the sign of continuity. After the splendid 2021/22 season, crowned by Olympic gold in the mixed doubles and by the bronze of the men's team at the Las Vegas World Championships, the Italian Ice Sports Federation has already launched a four-year preparation plan for the Winter Olympic Games in Milan Cortina 2026. To coordinate and direct the movement of the tricolor curling will be Claudio Pescia, confirmed in his current role as coach of the men's team and (together with Violetta Caldart) of the mixed blue doubles, but above all appointed Technical Director of the national teams. Claudio Pescia will be called to a careful planning and strategy work, in collaboration with the entire sector, so as to allow Italy to field three highly competitive teams in the next Olympic event at home. A work that will be carried out in harmony with Violetta Caldart - confirmed at the helm of the women's national team and, precisely with Pescia, of the mixed doubles one - and which will touch several points: from the greater enhancement of the national championships to a more constant commitment of the blue national teams in international tournaments and events throughout the season until the expansion and strengthening of the youth sector. The attention in the composition of a deep and complete technical staff for the top movement will be confirmed - starting from the physical trainer Andrea Cardone up to the figures of physiotherapist, nutritionist and psychologist - and we will work at a systemic level to improve quality and the diffusion of ice in the most relevant territorial areas. Many directors with a single goal of developing and growing the curling movement in an important way between now and 2026. “I am very happy, honored and motivated to take on this new position. We are returning from a historic and extraordinary season in which we have reaped the fruits of the work carried out in recent years and now, with the bar that has been raised and together with it also the expectations, we must be good at planning with foresight to do further steps that lead us to make a beautiful home Olympics and to ensure that Milan Cortina is not only a goal, but also a springboard for our discipline - explains Claudio Pescia - One of the objectives is to raise the level of general competitiveness of our curling, so as to have teams that fight and compete in the national championship while keeping the intensity and motivation high. At the beginning we will try to experiment, but without a doubt we will approach all the important events with great seriousness and attention, aware that curling can prove to be, as happened also in Beijing, a show capable of capturing the interest of the country. We have many ideas and we will do our best to make them come true ”.
