Victory with Norway, knockout against Sweden, the curling team will now need a miracle

Curling world championships: Azzurri still alternating, for the second phase and the Olympic pass the last two matches on Friday will be decisive, but favorable crossings from the other matches will be needed.

Another day with two faces, the sixth of the men's curling World Cup for Italy, first victorious on the Canadian ice in Calgary against Norway, then defeated shortly after by Scotland. In the first meeting, the Azzurri overwhelm the Scandinavians 10-3, but then fail in the encore which would have greatly fueled the hopes of a qualification for the second phase of the world championship and therefore for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Games. In fact, the 7-2 knockout against Scotland minimizes the favorable junctions for Retornaz and his teammates, who will still try tomorrow, on the last day of the round robin, to leave no stone unturned against Denmark and the Netherlands. The ranking at the moment says 8th place with a balance of 5 victories and 6 defeats: to hit the Olympic pass you need two successes and a lot of luck in the competitions where the opponents in front of the ranking are engaged. A day that started very well, with the Azzurri able to dominate Norway, the current fourth force in the World Cup. After a balanced start and a partial 3-2 lead after four ends, the National team formed by Sebastiano Arman (second, Aeronautica Militare), Mattia Giovanella (lead, CC Cembra 88), Amos Mosaner (third, Aeronautica Militare) and Joel Retornaz (skip, Pinerolo 2006) in the fifth round he even signed five points that bring the result to 8-3. The rest of the meeting, Italy manages and closes after eight ends at 10-3. Very different speech against Scotland. The opponents put two points in the second end and steal the hand in the third and fourth rounds going up 4-0. The comeback is too difficult for the Italy that chases without being able to hook the Scots who thus close the match on the result of 7-2. Today is a rest day for the tricolor national team which will return to the ice on Friday, the last day of the round robin, against Denmark at 17.00 in Italy and the orange at 22.00.
