Figure Skating
Pending the commencement of the European Championships in Budapest, scheduled for January 13 to 20 in the Hungarian capital, we propose four interviews conducted by Laura Sciarrillo in the weeks before the most important competition of the season in the old continent. Let's start with two athletes in the women's category: Francesca Rio and Roberta Rodeghiero.

Francesca Rio, classificatasi third in the Italian championships held in Merano three weeks ago, was called as a reserve to the Europeans in Budapest: "I'm very happy with how I skated in the Italian championships. At the national'' s last year I was injured. My neck was locked and I had to withdraw after the short, because I was not at all well. Before going to Milan I had competed in Sofia, it was very cold there and I remedied a bad injury to the neck. In short the national I could handle it very well, but in the free whenever I turned my head, such as in the preparation of Lutz, I felt very bad. That was definitely a race to forget, but it gave me the charge that I needed to give my best for this season. Quest'' year I feel much better shape. In Merano fact I managed the game well and I skated with my heart, enjoying my programs. I did the Short best of the season and I enjoyed it. I was behind a Short clean even in Sofia and one did less well at the Universiade, so I wanted to reproduce the perfect one! I promised a clean short program in the commentary on Raisport, right after my program in Trento (during the Universiade, ed), and I remember thinking, "Wow Francesca, not only the'' you said, but you also have the'' promised ... good move! Now you have to be speaking! " And I'm happy to have succeeded! Despite the two errors are also very happy of my activities. Because I struggled and there'' s I tried hard. I wanted to prove that I grew up. The jumps are sometimes, sometimes not, you know, but I wanted to show a program to senior skater, complete, concentrating on every detail and interpreting the beautiful choreography mounted on diMalaguena music. I think I have succeeded well because I received many compliments, and I'm really happy about this! '' The only bitterness to the second triple Lutz - my favorite jump. I wanted to do "too much" and I anticipated the movement, so I could not go up enough to run it. I will try to do so in the next races. "
The season of Como skater has, so far, developed in crescendo: "I started in Sesto San Giovanni with a race that did not go very well, despite my workouts were good during the summer''. Little by little I got better in subsequent competitions. My best race was in Romania, and Bulgaria in Sofia where I did what you say short life. I did nothing wrong, I was happy with the way I skated and thanks to the result of that race I managed to qualify for the Universiade. The free is always the one that makes me a little more'' in trouble, but I think my performance in Merano and Trento have put down a good foundation for the forthcoming races of the season. "During the Universiade Trento, in fact, Francesca was able to redeem itself with a good free after a Short undertone. "In the short program I made many mistakes because I too want to do: I came to a point in the season in which they are very fit and maybe I wanted to prove it too. Not everything was under control as I thought, and to be honest I was scared a little.'' In the next segment of the race so I decided to tackle one item at a time, without being influenced by my performance in the Short Program. What did I do wrong in that race - and I happen even in training - is to hasten the jumps and do not respect their timing, I can not get them to climb well and I tend to open them in advance. "
'' The athlete stationed at the Assago Forum will participate in the Bavarian Open Oberstdorf, the Coupe du Printemps in Lusseburgo and ISU competition in Vienna. "In the meantime, will train the triple-triple combinations and try to become more solid on some items. Might meet your fingers to Carolina and Valentina in Sochi and I will do my best to continue to skate well for myself and for all those who always support me in this tough but exciting journey. "
Roberta Rodeghiero has instead focused qualification for the European Championships, finishing in second place in the ranking Italian. "I am very excited to compete again with the idea of'' European'' I'm looking forward to being there! We did not make big changes in my programs in preparation for this race, and then remain almost the same. Has been made only a small change in the short program with regard to the steps that precede the triple toe loop, but nothing else. C'' is too little time to make big changes, we'll see if after the Europeans will be the case to change something.
'' The student Franca Bianconi hopes to repeat the good performance accomplished at the national championships in the free: "I'm definitely satisfied regarding my free program played in Merano ... was the best season ever'' now! I was very focused and determined, but at the same time calm and sure of myself. I mean, I knew I had nothing to lose and so I "attacked", especially after a short program that had me a little disappointed: I had no big mistakes or obvious, but too many small inaccuracies, which I paid dearly. I wanted revenge, because only the free counted for the purposes of European qualification, and so my goal was to do well in this particular segment of the race. "
For Roberta, the dynamics of the race held in Merano was similar to that of Trent, where after a short program spotted an error on the'' Flip athlete of the Sesto Ice Skate was able to run a good free program. "The Short Program had not gone as I had hoped. I had made a big mistake'' to start, an error that usually never do, and then the triple flip was gone completely off-axis. Anyway, I have been able to react well and I was able to complete the other two elements of the jump. '' The last top I was not counted, probably had not done enough laps, and then quell'' mistake cost me dear because I lost about three points. The second score was not very high, possibly influenced in part by'' be dropped on the track in the first group. I'm rather happy with how I skated free. I fought to the end, I run combinations and done right the first jump, I performed exceptionally well and in fact have received good GOE. I was hoping to repeat the good performance made at the Universiade in Sofia, which of course was the race that was better for me so far. However, sooner or later I'm sure I'll be able to run a short and a free clean in the same race! "
