Danny Kastlunger is the new helmsman of the World Cup stage at Plan de Corones

He will succeed Willi Kastlunger, the new honorary president: next 25 January 2022 the classic giant on the splendid Erta: "The goal is to keep the stage fixed on the calendar".

It is becoming a tradition in the women's World Cup calendar, the most difficult (according to almost all the athletes) and iconic giant of the circuit, on the "Erta" that will once again host Shiffrin, Bassino and all the champions of the white circus. January 25, 2022, just a few days before the Beijing Olympics. There is a novelty within the organizing committee of Kronplatz / San Vigilio di Marebbe, within "Al Plan Events": 51-year-old Danny Kastlunger, technical director of the San Vigilio cableways and general manager of the association for several years, he was unanimously elected as president, while Willi Kastlunger, who held the office for 18 years, was named honorary president. HISTORY For 18 years, Willi Kastlunger was at the top of the association that organized the biggest sporting events on Plan de Corones. The sports official, born in 1943, in 2001 accepted the challenge of organizing a European Cup of Alpine skiing with a new modus, called "4 runs". After the first one, the FIS abandoned the project, but “Al Plan Events” continued on its way, organizing European Cup competitions ever since. Over the years giants, slaloms and night parallels were disputed in Passo Furcia, on the Erta slope and on the Cianross, very close to the center of the village of San Vigilio di Marebbe. Until the 2006 Turin Olympic Games, Al Plan Events also organized snowboard and snowboard cross World Cup competitions. From 2008 to 2012, Willi Kastlunger and his team talked about themselves, bringing the Giro d''Italia to the top of Plan de Corones - first in a stage in line, then as a time trial from the town up to an altitude of 2,275 meters - A highlight in the history of sporting events in South Tyrol. From the beginning, however, the South Tyrolean manager had a very specific goal: to bring the Ski World Cup to Plan de Corones. The Organizing Committee organized competitions of the European Cup of ski of the highest level, as if they were World Cups in the European Cup, to create a good reputation in the environment. “Al Plan Events” was probably also the first CO of the European Cup to regularly participate in the FIS congresses, “so that they can see us and get to know us over time”, Willi Kastlunger repeated to his collaborators. And so it was. Although a senior World Cup official at the time assured Willi Kastlunger that Plan de Corones could never host a World Cup, the younger brother of tourism and skiing pioneer Erich Kastlunger was not about to give up. Finally, in 2017 the first women's ski World Cup race took place on the Erta slope in San Vigilio di Marebbe and three more have followed since then. Mission accomplished. The new president of “Al Plan Events”, Danny Kastlunger, has been part of the Organizing Committee since day one and in recent years he has held the position of general manager, mainly dealing with the infrastructure, the track, the TV set-up. The grandson of the outgoing president has the same determination in pursuing his goals. “Our main objective is to keep the World Cup over time and we will only succeed by keeping the quality level very high, both for the athletes and for the public”, declares the newly elected president for the next three years. After the 2021 edition was a demonstration in full pandemic and without an audience, we are currently working on the 2022 edition of next January 25th, for the moment in a "normal" scenario and it will take place on July 29th. the annual inspection by FIS managers on the Erta slope. Diego Clara was appointed Vice President of the Organizing Committee, member of the committee from the beginning and head of the press office.
