Jenal leads the Swiss double in the first super-g of the European Cup in Zinal: Sosio saves the blue balance

First success in the continental circuit for the 22 year old, who burns Jasmina Suter by 2 cents. At home Italy Bormina was very good, in the first race at these levels and just outside the top 15, further away the other blue ones.

A Swiss double to open the season of speed also in the European Cup. After two slaloms and three giants between Valle Aurina, Hippach and Andalo, here are the two super-gs from Zinal (on Tuesday, again at 11.00) in the continental circuit and the hosts dominating. The young Stephanie Jenal who burned Jasmina Suter for only two cents, probably the number 1 favorite on the eve, was a surprise, albeit partially considering that last season she had not gone far from the podium at this level. For the 22-year-old rossocrociata first hurray (and indeed first podium) in the European Cup, she who has competed only once in the World Cup so far, in the super-g of Sankt Moritz in December 2019 (won by Goggia on Brignone). Green age on the podium, given that the third step (for a first at these levels) was occupied by Lisa Grill, a great talent born in 2000 from Austria, she already three times silver world champion at the junior level behind Magdalena Egger (the class 2001 back on skis for a few days after the first points in CdM in Levi and an injury suffered in training) and today also able to caress the dream first place, just 18 cents from Jenal. Eaglets who also occupied the fourth and fifth position, with Schneeberger and Scheyer just ahead of Marusa Ferk, sixth at half a second (the Slovenian was the only one able to enter the dominion of Switzerland and Austria among the first 15) and another athlete who went to Zinal as preparation for the World Cup fast races scheduled for next weekend in St. Anton. The blue did not shine, but Federica Sosio's great comeback in the European Cup should be underlined: 13 months after the last super-g played in Kvitfjell, when she was still not ready after the terrible injury of January 2019 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the 26 year old from Bormina gave herself a 16th place (only 1 ”08 from Jenal, starting among other things with the bib 40 even if the track held up really well) which has a very important meaning. The other girls from Scolari are further away, with Karoline Pichler 26th and Jole Galli 27th (divided by 4 cents), while Monica Zanoner did not leave, Sofia Pizzato left and Giulia Albano (the first at the start with the number 9 and back from a beautiful 2019/2020 vintage), Teresa Runggaldier, Valentina Cillara Rossi, Elena Dolmen, Elisa Schranzhofer, Heloise Edifizi, Nicole Nogler Kostner, Elisa Maria Negri and Sara Allemand.
