Anna Veith's words, directly from the ARX hotel in Rohrmoos (which she manages with her husband Manuel), at the gates of Schladming, on the evening of the official announcement of farewell to competitive skiing. Interviewed by Alexandra Meissnitzer, on live TV on ORF1, the Salzburg champion left Marcel Hirscher more than 8 months after, at practically the same age and with few regrets, despite the thousand injuries that have certainly taken away from Anna the possibility of replenishing an already extraordinary palmares and traced even before turning 26.
Just Hirscher gave her a video message of thanks for what she has done in her career, as well as the great rivals Maze and Hoefl-Riesch, as well as her friend Lara Gut-Behrami. A career retraced in a few minutes and a certain serenity of soul by making the farewell official: "The reasons for the retreat are manifold, skiing has been in first place for many years and I can say that I have never loved anything as much as this sport . Now the priorities have changed and I think it was right to stop, also because last winter I did everything possible to find trust and results, but I was unable to get where I wanted.
I don't know what will happen, but I certainly can't wait to do it and ... no, I'm not pregnant yet ", Anna replied to cancel the rumors about a possible pregnancy that has been affixed to her for years in Austria.
The balance is clearly conditioned by the injuries, first of all the terrible one of Soelden of 21 October 2015, but with an Olympic title, three world golds and two absolute World Cups, Anna can only smile: “I gave everything and I think I was always awarded, none of this would have been possible without the team of coaches and staff in general, family, friends and sponsors. I sincerely thank them, especially those who believed in me in the most difficult moments. The most exciting moment? I have no doubt, the silver medal at the PyeongChang Olympics (with Ester Ledecka taking away her gold for a single cent in super-g), because after the 2015 injury nobody knew if it would be again possible to ski as before. That medal represented the reward for all the hard work. "
And the other top moment can only be Meribel 2015, with the extraordinary duel in the final giant with Tina Maze, to conquer the second consecutive World Cup: “I will remember it for a lifetime, it was a very special victory and I always have thought that the crystal ball represents the dream of every young skier. It means you're the best in your sport that season and it's a unique feeling. "
