It is the last World Cup race before the world championship event in Cortina and which arrives just three days after the same test that we will see next Tuesday on “Vertigine”.
The men's super-g of Garmisch-Partenkirchen will be staged on Saturday, with a start scheduled at 11.30 (live TV on Eurosport and Rai Sport), tracked by the Azzurri coach, Alberto Ghidoni, and unfortunately torn apart by the absence of a discipline which, let's add even the injury suffered today by Josef Ferstl, is deprived of many of its great protagonists. From Mauro Caviezel, who eventually gave up on returning here to Garmisch, to Kilde via Cochran-Siegle and, in the case of tomorrow's race, to Alexis Pinturault himself who is already thinking about the World Championships.
Marco Odermatt will try to shorten overall compared to the transalpine and will be the first to come out of the gate in the fifth seasonal specialty race: second in Kitzbuehel, the Swiss will have to deal primarily with Matthias Mayer and Vincent Kriechmayr (with him on the podium last 25 January in the Tyrolean race), the Austrian couple who were able to immediately choose bibs 3 and 5, fundamental low numbers in the conditions in which the Kandahar 1 is, as demonstrated also by today's downhill won by Dominik Paris.
And in this sense, the starting number of the two leading Azzurri is a big problem: Christof Innerhofer and Dominik Paris, 9th and 10th in the WCSL considering the various forfeits, were in fact forced to take 17 and 19 . After them we will see the other five Italians at the gate, where we will not see Mattia Casse, still in a forerunner version (there is a need to defend the injured status) but eligible for a place at the World Cup since since the test on Thursday at same descent today, his performances were really good considering the stop of over two months.
Emanuele Buzzi will play the world pass starting with 25, after having suffered downhill again today, as well as Matteo Marsaglia (bib 30), then again Tonetti with 31, for another test already thinking from a combined perspective of Cortina, Guglielmo Bosca (37) who returns to the race replacing Zazzi and Florian Schieder to close with the n ° 45.
