It is Austria that dominates the opening round of the first alpine combined in the 2019/2020 European Cup season for the men's sector.
Santa Caterina Valfurva welcomed the continental circuit, for its third stage after Funesdalen and Trysil, with a spectacular super-g from the "Deborah Compagnoni", which will be combined with the slalom race scheduled at 13.30 to assign the success of the first of the two races in Alta Valtellina, given that tomorrow (10.00 am) there will be a "single" super-g.
Niklas Koeck is clearly in the lead after the speed test: the 27-year-old Tyrolean (12 bibs in the World Cup) trimmed 75 and 77 cents respectively to compatriots Manuel Traninger and Raphael Haaser, with the Slovenian Debelak distanced 1 "02 and the Frenchman Loriot of 1 "03.
The blues? The best result was Guglielmo Bosca, already on the podium in Zinal super-g FIS, returning after a two-year stop; for the Milanese 6th partial place, but to 1 "41 from Koeck and in front of a couple of tenths to Matteo Vaghi, 8th to 1" 63. Then we find Pietro Zazzi, 12th at 1 "79, Nicolò Molteni 14th at 1" 98 and Davide Cazzaniga 17th at 2 "09, certainly not yet at his best after the injury that deprived him of the opportunity to exploit in the North American races of the World Cup, the fixed place won just last year in the continental circuit.
They did not hit the top 30, but they will still be looking for some points in the second race (although they are not specialists among the rapid gates), expected sprinters like Henri Battilani, Alexander Prast, Florian Schieder and Federico Paini.
