The Norwegian Aksel Lund Svindal suffered a right thumb surgery in Vail last week but despite this he was given the ok by doctors to show up at Lake Louise for testing and for the descent and super-G on the Canadian track.

"If I had not operated now, it would have been much more complicated to do it later," Svindal told the Norwegian public television station NRK. "Obviously, the injury in the race is an obstacle, but I think it's also a psychological problem. It's important to be able to keep the club and keep calm for the race ".
Finally the extent of the injury was specified: injury to the right thumb ligament, also called by the skiers themselves as the "thumb of the skier". The operation stabilized the thumb joint with two metal bars and now Svindal has a cuff that will keep him company, so to speak, for the next six weeks.
For testing and competitions it was also necessary to change the gloves configuration of the 35-year-old Norwegian who, as we said, has the medical staff's ok to try and see if he races on a track where he got eight of his 35 victories in World Cup races may be possible for him. And after all, someone has already seen it on the track, we'll see if tomorrow will be presented at the start of the first time trial ...
