Alarm for Beat Feuz: fracture in the left hand, but the descent leader will be in Bormio

The Swiss downhill racer was injured during the super-g in Val Gardena: fracture in the fifth metacarpal, but the operation is not necessary and on Wednesday he will travel to the Valtellina races.

A small big alarm, for a setback that certainly some headache will create for the leader of the downhill World Cup. For Beat Feuz, in the last hours, after a visit to Innsbruck, a problem in the left hand remedied during the super-g of last Friday in Val Gardena ended in ninth place: for the Swiss champion and winner of the last two spheres crystal speed, there is a fracture of the fifth metacarpal bone, which does not require surgery, however. The program therefore does not change, with Feuz traveling on Wednesday, Christmas day, in the direction of Bormio like all teammates, to then play the first round of the long weekend in Valtellina on Thursday, which includes a double descent on the Stelvio, on paper more favorable to direct rival Dominik Paris. Only on the track, however, will we understand how the 32-year-old from the Canton of Bern will react in a key stage that will close the competitive 2019.
