A dozen days of good work, and the season of slalomgigantists of the US Ski Team has also officially started.
The snows of Mount Bachelor welcomed the US team led by Forest Carey, while Mikaela Shiffrin was able to ski in the last few weeks in that of Copper Mountain, Colorado. Given the emergency situation in the States, all the more reason the star and stripe formations are traveling as little as possible, but the group of technical disciplines has managed to put together a quality camp, concluded just in the past few hours on the slopes of the mountain of the Central Oregon.
With the host Tommy Ford, 5th in the world in giant after the first career triumph in Beaver Creek, there was also the other native skier of the state, namely the very young Luke Winters, but also the veteran Ted Ligety (who announced a few days ago that he wanted to continue his career until Beijing 2022), Ryan Cochran-Siegle and the junior world medalist, Ben Ritchie.
"We found an ideal environment from every point of view, with enthusiastic and motivated athletes - explained Carey himself - Dr. Brett Gingold provided us with all the support to feel safe on the medical level, as regards the facilities, which were closed to the public, we used the snowmobiles and we can only thank the staff of the resort who was fabulous. We did eight giant days on a 55 second track and two slaloms when the weather was not favorable. "
Winters, born in '97, which we discovered in particular in the Val d''Isère slalom, after that incredible first race ended in 2nd place going down with bib number 40, spoke of "spring conditions, given that the track is it has been quite salty, and similar to those found during the season between Alta Badia, Hinterstoder and Yuzawa Naeba ". If the young Oregon cow-boy has confessed that he will do much more giant to try to compete in the World Cup even between the wide doors, Tommy Ford has instead talked about his emotion of skiing on the snow at home with the whole national team.
