Jean-Baptiste Grange and the elixir of long life: "Every season as if it were the last, I am well again"

The two-time slalom champion found himself, one year after Wengen's injury, constantly in the top ten area. At Ski Chrono he told what he sees in his future.

It surprised again all those who, after the knee crash in the 2nd round of the Wengen slalom 2019, had once again decreed the end of the high-level career, as had happened in the past among the many injuries suffered in career. Jean-Baptiste Grange, however, is a champion and, with 36 years to go at the dawn of next season (he will turn 10 on October 10), he will be at the starting line of a new vintage with the awareness of being immediately competitive in slalom again , capable of sailing still close to the top, between 9th place in Wengen, 10th in Chamonix and a continuity broken only by the early interruption of the World Cup, just when the bi world champion among the rapid gates (Garmisch 2011, Beaver Creek 2015) had found the best sensations. “In reality, however, I enjoyed a peaceful end of the season - he confessed to his colleagues at Ski Chrono - Usually we also train in the spring, but a little forced rest does not hurt. Furthermore, in my Valloire I have a privileged environment. Unfortunately, it has been incredible how much success if I think about the suffering of so many people ". The recovery is also close for French skiers, who will train in June between Les Deux Alpes and the snows of Iseran, on the Pisaillas glacier: “We are no longer used to skiing in this period, but it is nice to change and then not overcharge between July and August. Personally, I don't need many training days to feel the right sensations, but I still hope to be able to face the trip to Ushuaia: there is a possibility, in case it should go wrong we will adapt without problems ". Grange who explains that “I had no knee pain, in fact I even forgot that I underwent an operation last year. In addition, my back is also fine because I treat it by working on joint mobility, doing yoga for example. Just some old age pain, in short ... ". Happiness is that of "having regained my level, at the end of the season I was close to returning to the top 15 in the world, then it was very particular with the cancellation in Japan, the news of the Cortina finals and then that of Kranjska Gora, while I was training in Reiteralm. I had started badly by not finishing the first two races, then from Christmas I found the focus and I had fun. This is one of the keys to making it, living the next season as if it were the last one ”.
